💰 Price Information

Our trip price depends on group sizeseason, and access level to the remote villages.
The deeper and more remote the journey, the greater the adventure and the more challenging the logistics. We believe in transparency and fairness. Costs vary based on transportation, permits, local contributions, and logistics required to reach these secluded jungle regions. Each itinerary is designed to ensure your safety, comfort, and an authentic local experience while maintaining our ethical standards.

Strong Points of the Experience

  • This trip focuses on authentic interaction and hands-on learning with the Mentawai community. It’s a genuine experience that allows you to understand their way of life, rather than simply observe it.

  • Participate in daily activities such as preparing food, collecting sago, fishing, or crafting tools from natural materials.
  • A genuine and respectful cultural experience, designed for travelers who seek authentic connection rather than comfort or luxury.

What This Trip Is About

This experience is for curious, adventurous travelers who want more than sightseeing, those who seek to connect deeply with people, place, and the local culture.
You’ll trek through the dense rainforests of Mentawai Island, cross winding jungle rivers, and meet the indigenous Mentawai tribe, guardians of an ancient way of life.

During your stay, you’ll learn their forest wisdom, medicinal plants, traditional crafts, and survival techniques, and live side-by-side with them, sharing meals, stories, and laughter.

This journey is not about luxury; it’s about authenticity, cultural exchange, and transformation, leaving behind mass tourism to discover the real Mentawai world.

Trip Summary

Note: This journey may stretch your comfort zone. There is no fixed itinerary; each trip is unique and guided by the rhythm of
 local life.

Day 1: Padang – Siberut – Mentawai Family

06:00 a.m. – Pick-up from your hotel in Padang, at 07:00 a.m. – Depart for Siberut Island via fast ferry (1-hour stop in Pokkai) and continue lunch at a local restaurant en route. Upon arrival in South Siberut, transfer to a nearby transit village while the team prepares logistics. Continue the journey upriver by traditional motor canoe, crossing stunning jungle rivers until we reach our trekking point. Begin a 1.5 to 2-hour trek (depending on your pace) to the Mentawai clan house deep in the forest. Meet your host family and the Mentawai shaman (Sikerei).

Days 2 to 3: Immersion with the Mentawai Tribe

During your stay with the Mentawai tribe family, there is no fixed schedule or staged program. This is not a performance or tourist show, but a true cultural immersion —a chance to live and learn alongside the Mentawai people in their daily lives. You are free to participate, observe, and learn from whatever activities unfold naturally during your stay.

Each day brings something new — from gathering food from the sago treenet fishing with Mentawai women, and preparing hunting tools to setting traps, scouting the jungle, and learning survival skills passed down through generations. This experience is about connection, respect, and discovery, living the rhythm of the Mentawai tribe, not just visiting it.

Day 4: Return to Padang

ü  Farewell breakfast with your host family.

ü  Trek back to the river and return by canoe to the transit village.

ü  Freshen up, have lunch, and prepare for departure.

ü  15:00 – Fast ferry back to Padang (arrival approx. 18:30).

ü  Transfer to your hotel. Tour ends.
