Trip Summary
Day 1: Padang – Siberut Island –
Mentawai Tribe
- 06:00 AM: Pickup from your hotel in Padang and transfer to the
harbor.
- Board the fast ferry to Siberut Island.
Arrive in North Siberut (Pokkai)
for a 1-hour transit
(loading/unloading goods and passengers). Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to South Siberut.
- Upon
arrival, transfer by minivan or
pickup truck to a government
settlement village.
- Spend the
evening preparing equipment
and visiting a local waterfall
before an overnight stay in our transit
village.
Day 2: Trekking into the Remote Jungle
– Mentawai Encounter
- Breakfast before starting a 5-hour jungle trek to reach the Atabai jungle area, home to the Mentawai tribe and shaman (Sikerei).
- Lunch in the jungle during the trek.
- Arrive at
the Mentawai clan settlement,
where you’ll be warmly welcomed
by the shaman and his family.
Days 3–5: Immersive Jungle Life Experience
Experience
the traditional way of life of
the Mentawai people, learning survival skills and engaging in their daily
routines, for exampl.e
- Building a jungle hut in the traditional Mentawai
style.
- Weaving baskets and bags from rattan and leaves,
essential for daily survival.
- Preparing natural poison for hunting.
- Crafting traditional bows and arrows used by the
Mentawai hunters.
- Participating in hunting activities, typically
conducted in the early morning after scouting the area.
- Helping with food preparation and engaging in cultural
exchanges with the Mentawai family.
Day 6–8: Trekking to a New Jungle Area – Meeting Another Mentawai tribe
- Move to a different remote jungle settlement,
encountering another Mentawai
family.
- Continue immersing in traditional jungle life,
exploring new regions, and learning additional survival skills.
- Assist in daily food preparation and
participate in various cultural
practices.
Day 9: Return from the Jungle –
Transfer to Siberut Town
- Farewell ceremony with the Mentawai family.
- Depart the jungle by traditional motorized canoe, traveling
down the river.
- Transfer to Siberut town by a pickup car.
- Overnight
stay at a local guesthouse
near the Siberut port.
Day 10: Return to Padang
- Breakfast at the guesthouse.
- Transfer to Siberut Port.
- Enjoy a farewell lunch at a local restaurant.
- Board the fast ferry back to Padang.
- Tour concludes upon arrival in Padang.
