Terms &
Conditions
- Pacu Jawi (Sumatra’s traditional cow race) is a centuries-old
cultural event celebrated by the Minangkabau people to mark the end of the rice harvest season. It is important to
note that there is no animal cruelty
or mistreatment involved in this event. The participating cows belong to local farmers, who nurture and care for them as part of their
livelihood.
- This race is not a high-stakes
competition but rather a community
celebration and entertainment for local farmers. The
primary goal is to enjoy the event
rather than determine a single winner.
- Cows that perform well—by running in a straight line and demonstrating good cooperation with the rider—receive special recognition from their owners and the local
community. These cows often increase in value
at the traditional cattle market.
- Sumatra’s climate is hot, humid, and tropical year-round, as it is
located right on the equator.
The driest season is typically from May to September,
though occasional rains may still occur. The wettest period is from November to January.
