The Itinerary: A Journey of Two Worlds
Day 1: Padang – Siberut Island – Tribe
stay
- 06:00 AM: Pickup from your hotel in Padang. We head to the
harbor to catch the Fast Ferry to Siberut Island.
- The Crossing: We’ll stop briefly in North Siberut (Pokkai) to
unload goods—a great time for a local lunch and to watch the island
activity.
- The River Journey: Once we reach South Siberut, we load our gear into
a motorized canoe. We’ll spend the next 1.5 to 2 hours winding up the
Rereiket River, deep into the jungle.
- The Trek: A 3.5 km hike through the rainforest brings us to
the Uma (traditional longhouse). Meet the Mentawai
family, who will be our host, and settle in for your first night in the
jungle.
Days 2 – 4: Living with the Mentawai
There is no fixed schedule here; we live as the family lives.
· Daily Life: You’re invited to join in on
everything—gathering sago, preparing food, or heading into the forest to learn
about medicinal plants.
· Cultural Connection: Spend time with the "Flower
Men," learning about their traditions, tattoos, and spiritual link to the
forest.
The Unscripted: If we are lucky, we may be able
to witness a Shamanic ritual. We keep things flexible to allow for these real,
spontaneous moments.
Please note: This part of the trip is about stepping outside your comfort zone and embracing basic, traditional living. We reserve the right to modify, delay, or adjust the itinerary or program during the trip in order to adapt to natural conditions and ensure everyone’s safety. Decisions are made based on our local knowledge of the area, particularly in response to weather and environmental conditions.
Day 5: Transition to the Coast
- 08:00 AM: We say our goodbyes and trek back to the river. The
canoe takes us back downstream to the transit village.
- To the Ocean: After lunch in Siberut town, we trade the jungle
for the sea. A 2-hour boat ride brings us to our surf camp on Masokut Island.
- Arrival: Check in, drop your bags, and enjoy the first
evening on the beach with dinner at the camp.
Days 6 – 9: Mentawai Surf Sessions
We are now in the "Playground" area, home to some of the most
consistent waves in the world.
· The Surf: We focus on fun, approachable
waves perfect for intermediate levels.
· Daily Routine: Two boat trips every day to find
the best breaks based on the wind and swell.
· Island Time: When you aren't surfing, the
time is yours. Swim in the crystal-clear water, try some fishing, or just find
a hammock and relax.
Day 10: Back to the Mainland
- Morning: Enjoy a final island breakfast and a last dip in
the ocean.
- The Return: We head back to Mailepet harbor for lunch before
catching the 14:40 ferry back to Padang.
- 8:30 P.m: Arrival in Padang, continue to drop off at your
hotel choice in Padang. The journey ends here
