Practical Information & Ethics
·
The Spirit of Pacu Jawi: This is a traditional harvest celebration. There is no animal cruelty involved; these bulls are highly
prized assets and are well cared for by their owners. The event is a demonstration of
strength and a community gathering meant for joy and social bonding.
·
Climate: Located on the Equator, Sumatra is hot and humid (approx. 30°C). Be
prepared for sudden tropical rain, especially between November and January.
·
Photography Tip: For Pacu Jawi, bring a plastic rain cover for your camera body and
lens—the mud flies fast and far!
